Alice Hardy, (Adrienne King), rest in a canoe near the end of the movie. Sean S. Cunningham's "Friday the 13th", (1980).
In 1980, producer and director Sean S. Cunningham made a low-budget horror movie called "Friday the 13th". Working on the title alone, he, Associate Producer Steve Miner, and Harry Manfredini, (who did the eerie music), and screenwriter Victor Miller, made the movie independently. The first movie in the series has an air of mystery and suspense that's missing in the sequels. With the special make-up and effects by Tom Savini, its reputation, almost four decades later, hasn't dimmed. Filmed in late 1979, it became so successful, that it was a box-office hit. Cunningham, who produced "Last house on the Left", in 1972 with the late Wes Craven, worked on family movies in the 1970's. Following on from other horror directors like Robert Wise, John Carpenter, Mario Bava, and Dario Argento, (who all made diverse movies in their careers), "Friday the 13th" was a watershed horror movie that broke new ground, and became a cult film in the process.
